'Kayak
Safety & Core Skills’ Pool course
This is an evening course, split into 4 sessions (an hour in length).
Typically these courses run from 8 till 9pm on a Tuesday evening
for four consecutive weeks. Our low student to instructor ratio
ensures optimum safety and learning, whilst allowing great flexibility,
catering for absolute beginners and those wishing to further progress
their existing skills.
You will learn;
• Water confidence and safety
• Rescue skills to suit different situations
• Core stability and preventing a capsize
• Efficient manoeuvring of a kayak
Depending
upon the individual, you may also learn
• How to 'Eskimo roll' or self-right your kayak.
All in the comfort of an indoor heated pool!
'Introduction
to Sea Kayaking'
A course aimed at beginners or those with little or no experience
in sea kayaking. This course is typically split into 4 sessions,
each two hours in duration, for four consecutive weeks on a Sunday
morning. (Also available on summer evenings or as a two day block)
and covers;
• Handling sea kayaks – forward paddling, turning, balance
and control
• Water safety, awareness and confidence
• Capsize and recovery within a group
• Preventing a capsize
• Journeying - kayak safety, trip planning and preparation,
tides and chart work, personal kit, campsite selection, culminating
in planning and running a sea kayak trip.
Progression Courses
Both of the above courses complement one another, and provide a
sound base of skills and awareness from which individuals can enter
and progress in the sport.
Following this we offer a progressive learning program, for those
who wish to continue paddling with us on a regular basis, Adventure
Club, and specific courses on demand for those who have their
own kit and equipment, and or desire separate intensive learning
blocks to acquire new skills and progress their personal paddling.
